Cut out the fabric leaving extra for seam allowance on the sides. The easiest way to do this is to lay the cushion on the fabric and trace around it, leaving excess room for seam allowance. For a basic seat cover you should have a top, bottom and 4 side pieces that will make up your cushion. Sew together using the wrong side of the fabric, the top and side pieces, and then once that is complete you will sew on the bottom part of the cushion, leaving an opening so that it will cover the foam cushion. Where you have your opening, you will want to sew in either a zipper so that you can close it after it’s on, or the easiest way would be to sew on Velcro closures.
Making outdoor patio cushions are just as easy as making pillows for your living room, you will have to use more durable fabrics but most sewing machines can easily sew through these fabrics.
